How to Calculate Your Personal Year Number
Your personal year number changes on your birthday each year. To calculate it:
- Take your birth day (day of the month only) and birth month
- Add these to the current year
- Reduce all digits to a single number
Example: Born on 14 May. For 2026: 1+4 + 5 + 2+0+2+6 = 20 → 2+0 = Personal Year 2
The personal year runs from birthday to birthday — not January to December. So someone born in May 2026 is in their personal year until May 2027, and what we calculate above governs that entire period.

Personal Year 1 is the planting season of the 9-year cycle. The energy of the Sun fills this year with vitality, confidence, and the impulse to begin. What you initiate in a Year 1 sets the direction for the next 8 years. This is not the year to wait, hesitate, or maintain the status quo.
Personal Year 2 — Patience & Cooperation
After the bold initiations of Year 1, Year 2 asks for patience. Moon energy makes this a year of cooperation, emotional depth, and careful nurturing of what was planted. Rushing will backfire — the seeds of Year 1 need time to germinate. This is a year for relationships, diplomacy, and listening.
Personal Year 3 — Creativity & Expression
Jupiter brings optimism, abundance, and a desire to express yourself fully. Year 3 is social, creative, and expansive. Communication flows, opportunities seem to multiply, and the world feels generous. The danger is overextension — Jupiter's abundance can lead to scattered focus if not channelled.
Personal Year 4 — Building & Discipline
After the expansive joy of Year 3, Year 4 demands discipline, structure, and sustained effort. This is the year of laying foundations — boring, necessary work that will support everything built in the next five years. Rahu's energy can also bring unexpected disruptions that force you to build more carefully.
Personal Year 5 — Change & Freedom
Mercury brings speed, variety, and change. Year 5 is unpredictable, exciting, and full of unexpected opportunities. Travel, new contacts, sudden pivots, and multiple projects are typical. The danger is restlessness — Mercury energy scattered across too many directions produces motion without progress.
Personal Year 6 — Love & Responsibility
Venus brings beauty, harmony, and a focus on the domestic and relational spheres of life. Year 6 often involves increased family responsibility, deepening love relationships, home renovation, marriage, or caring for others. It's a year of service — giving more than usual, and finding it meaningful rather than burdensome.
Personal Year 7 — Reflection & Wisdom
Year 7 is the most internal of the nine years. Ketu withdraws you from the outer world and asks you to look within. It's a year for study, spiritual practice, solitude, research, and deep reflection. Social activity decreases; business expansion is not favoured. But wisdom gained in a Year 7 becomes the foundation for the power of Year 8.
Personal Year 8 — Power & Achievement
Year 8 is the harvest year — the sum of all previous effort in this 9-year cycle. Saturn rewards sustained, ethical work with authority, recognition, and material gains. This is the year for promotions, large financial transactions, and assuming positions of power. Saturn's justice is exact: shortcuts and compromises made in earlier years also come due.
Personal Year 9 — Completion & Release
Year 9 is the final year of the cycle — a year of endings, completions, and release. Mars gives energy and urgency to finish what has been started. Relationships, projects, habits, and situations that no longer serve you will naturally conclude or dissolve. Resisting these endings prolongs them; accepting them clears space for the fresh Year 1 beginning.
How to Use Your Personal Year Forecast
Knowing your personal year number is a strategic tool, not a prediction set in stone. Here's how to apply it practically:
- Plan with the cycle, not against it. Starting a business in a Year 4 (foundation year) is very different from starting one in a Year 1 (initiative year). Both can work — but Year 1 brings more natural momentum.
- Understand dry years and peak years. Years 7 and 9 are naturally more internal and closing. If a Year 7 feels slow, it's by design — use it for preparation rather than fighting for external results.
- Look at the compound personal year too. If the unreduced digits produce a compound number (e.g., 14, 19, 23), check its symbolism. The compound year number provides another layer of flavour on top of the single digit.
- Combine with Moolank and Bhagyank. Your personal year energy interacts with your core numbers. A Moolank 1 person in a Personal Year 1 experiences extremely amplified Sun energy — powerful, but intense. Knowing your core chart helps you calibrate.
